Image Vectorizer

Trace images into genuine SVG paths with editable colors. Compare the original, remove white areas, inspect SVG code and download locally.

Your artwork. Real SVG paths.

Choose an image and 1–16 colors, then vectorize.

PASS IT ON

A useful tool is worth sharing.

HOW IT WORKS

Three steps. Ready for what’s next.

01

Choose your artwork

Add images or a folder. PSD, TIFF, HEIF and PDF inputs are decoded locally; document pages appear separately.

02

Trace and refine

Choose 1–16 ink colors and vectorize. Recolor the traced layers, toggle white transparency and compare the original with the result.

03

Download SVG paths

Download one SVG or a ZIP of completed results. Copy or inspect the complete SVG source.

About Image Vectorizer.

Trace artwork into SVG paths

The vectorizer reduces image colors into a palette, then traces the shapes as closed Bézier paths using the supplied Potrace and color-quantization engine. The SVG contains vector geometry, rather than an embedded raster image.

Color controls and transparency

Choose up to 16 ink colors. One-color mode creates black artwork using an adaptive threshold. Palette swatches recolor existing paths instantly; changing the color count requires tracing again. White is separate from the ink palette. The white-to-transparent switch omits the white underlay; turning it off restores visible source areas without filling originally transparent regions. Soft source alpha is approximated with a separate vector luminance mask. White is kept by default; enable white removal only when it is intentional.

Compare before saving

Use the before/after control, zoom, fit and pan to inspect details. Logos, icons and flat illustrations generally trace more cleanly than photographs. Color reduction and curve fitting approximate the source; gradients, fine texture and translucent shadows are not preserved exactly.

Supported inputs and local processing

PNG, JPG, JPEG, JFIF, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, SVG and ICO are decoded with browser support. PSD uses a merged preview; TIFF, PDF, HEIC and HEIF use local decoders. Multi-page inputs produce separate SVG files. Animated images use a still frame. Files can be up to 50 MB, with a 200 MB batch input budget.

Trace size and downloads

Tracing fits the image within 4,096 pixels per side and eight megapixels, while the exported SVG retains the original width, height and proportions. Fine details may be simplified at this processing size. Completed files can be saved individually or in a ZIP with safe original folder paths.

Source and license

The supplied tracing engine is GPL-2.0 and includes Potrace, copyright Peter Selinger, JavaScript port by kilobtye. The full engine source and license are available with the tool. Artwork and SVG exports are not covered by the software license.
